Daavening for Delicious Showers

Did you notice?

If you have been following my store you may have noticed my newest creative push. That would be Reading Comprehension Sheets. I feel like I got into when I asked myself, “What would I want my kids to know and how do I achieve that?”. Now I’m all in. They’re easy to read, kids like them and they learn a lot. They work great in the classroom, perfect for fast finishers too, and one teacher told me they use it for homework!

So here’s the latest one and it’s about the 7th of MarCheshvan.

When it rains, it pours

So what’s this day all about and how do I convey it to my kids? The short of it is that Yidden would travel home after spending Sukkos in the Beis HaMikdosh. Some trips were several hours and some a few days. The farthest? 15 days to get home.

Now in ancient times these Jews were farmers and as such depended on rain. Yet, they would all wait for the very last Jew to make it home before daavening for it. These sheets explore this day and the lessons we can learn from it.

Traveling man

What’s inside?

The Comprehension Sheets follow a basic template. The first 2 or 3 sheets is the base info broken down for the children so it is easy to read and comprehend. That’s the point, isn’t it? For older grades using these sheets I also have a graphic organiser meant to be completed as they are reading the material. I found that for grade 3 and under it’s a bit hard, but great for grade 4 an dup.

After that I have a series of thought provoking questions to encourage reflection on the material. In this set for 7th of MarCheshvan I have multiple choice questions, true or false and match the definition. Following that is a chance to number the storyline. And new for this set is a creative writing activity where students fill out a diary of a traveler making their way back home.
