Hey there! Thanks for stopping by. Below, you’ll find a fantastic game for Shavuos preparation, centered around the Aseres HaDibros, the Ten Commandments.
Objective
To accurately recreate a drawing based on verbal descriptions, reinforcing knowledge and understanding of the Aseres Hadibros.
Number of Players
Four or more (played in pairs)
Materials Needed
- Sheets of white paper
- Pencils, pens, or sketch pens
- Pre-drawn images representing each of the Aseres Hadibros (I’m going to be using these)
Preparation
1. Create or print out ten images, each representing one of the Aseres Hadibros in a simple and recognizable way.
2. Ensure each pair has a copy of the Aseres Hadibros to reference after the drawing phase.
How to Play
1. Form Pairs: Divide the children into pairs. Each pair should sit back-to-back.
2. Distribute Images: Give one child in each pair an image related to one of the Aseres Hadibros.
3. Describing Phase: The child with the image describes it to their partner without revealing what the image is or mentioning the specific commandment. For example, if the image is of a boy holding a Torah, they might say, “There is a child holding a large objects with wooden poles, and there are some letters on them.”
4. Drawing Phase: The second child tries to recreate the image based solely on their partner’s description.
5. Reveal and Compare: After the drawings are completed, pairs can reveal their creations to each other and compare them with the original images.
6. Discussion: Each pair discusses which commandment their image represented and references the copy of the Aseres Hadibros to understand its significance.
Rules
- The describer cannot use specific words that give away the exact nature of the image (e.g., “Torah,” “Luchos,” or “Mitzvaht”).
- The drawer must try to capture as many details as possible based on the description.
- Each pair should discuss and reflect on the commandment after revealing the drawings.
Scoring
- Award points for accuracy and creativity. For example, 5 points for a drawing that closely matches the original, 3 points for partial matches, and 1 point for effort.
- Additional points can be awarded for insightful reflections on the significance of the commandment.
This game not only helps children engage with and understand the Aseres Hadibros but also encourages teamwork, communication, and creativity.
